CONGRATULATIONS!
Now
that you've decided to get a new addition to your family, have you
thought about the care of the maltese puppy..Really really take in
consideration of the grooming aspect of care. Yes, yes, yes it can
be challenging to take care of a white coated pet...Especially if
you want the long hair look of the maltese...Some people think that
the long hair on the maltese is exceptionally gorgeous. The beauty
of the flowing hair as the maltese floats across the room..Like a
little Angel so neat so incredibly mouth dropping fascinating. And
then there are some who think the long haired maltese like a
dog in a drape. A very manicured hippie so to speak...The dual topnotch
hairdo that makes them look so serious and mean...Some feel the
long hair on the maltese makes them look like they are no fun to be
with..
Well, Let me voice my opinion for a minute or two.. I'm very
bias when it comes to the maltese breed..I think of them as the incredible
mouth dropping, eye stunning, show stopping, fascinating Angels in
white flowing silk robes. I love the long hair look really I
do...But I rather keep them in a puppy cut which makes them look really
cute..And is much easier to maintain for them and for me. I brush
and comb the hair daily. You should do this before bathing or
giving them a hair cut. I also keep the hair trimmed around
the anal area so the hair doesn't catch any poop...I bath them once
a week to 10 days with a whitening dog shampoo and a very good conditioner.
I clip the nails once to twice a month or as needed on adults
and puppies I clip their nails weekly or as needed. Also make
sure you clip the hair from under the paw pads.. PLEASE be careful
to NOT cut the webbing between the toes or to high up on the
nail bed or else your baby will never trust you again. Keep some qwik
stop available for bleeding just in case you make a boo boo.. I
try to wipe the eye area every day and if not I definitely do it every
other day. I keep the hair cut from around the eyes so that
the eyes won't get irritated from hair getting into the eyes which
also causes tear staining from watery eyes. When the tears set
on the face for a while it will cause bacteria which will turn red
or a brownish red color to appear around the eyes or face area..So
make sure you use a wet wash cloth to wash away the tears everyday.
I brush and comb them daily. This give them some bonding time with
you..If I put a bow in the hair I make sure that I take it down and
redo it daily. But remember never too tight. It'll definitely give
them a headache and mostly it'll pull the hair and cause breakage...Their
teeth get brushed weekly and in the meantime they are feed Greenies
which they love so much..Once a year they get their teeth clean by
our Veternarian and then the teeth are coated with OraVet gel and
maintained by me weekly for plague prevention...
I give them MISSING
LINK which you can purchase from any pet store. It is
a supplement that will make the coat shiney and soft and beautiful..
It is full of omega fatty acids and vitamins that is so healthy
for your baby. It does wonders for the life of your dog..I think it
helps with the tear staining also...I love this product.
TEAR STAINING
Teething,
Plague buildup on teeth, Eye infection, Ear infection, Allergies,
Blocked or deformed tear duct, neglect and retained hair poking
back into the eyes WILL CAUSE TEAR STAINING. POINT BLOCK PERIOD. NO
doubt about it..So if you want your babies face to stay gorgeously
white you have to follow the rules. By taking the baby to the Vet
and or a Eye Specialist to make sure that there isn't any underlying
medical problem or defect.. And if there isn't any medical condition
that is causing the tear stain problem then you have to follow the
rules and If the rules are broken the circumstance will
appear. Which will result in tear staining galore. KEEP HAIR TRIMMED
AROUND THE EYES ALWAYS.
OK! Now there is a big issue about tear staining...Some
say this some say that..And believe me I've tried it. Money that was
actually poured down the drain and products that was accumulated and
has taken up space and have irritated my babies eyes even more
so. First and foremost if your baby suffer from tear staining
get him or her checked by a professional Veternarian to rule out any
infections or genectic defect etc. Have your Veternarian flushed his/her
eyes to make sure there is no blockage. You can have this done
at the time of getting the teeth professionally cleaned especially
in a older maltese. If you are not feeling safe with the Vet
take your baby to an Eye Specialist..Remember also to keep the hair
trimmed around the eye area. And keep the hair from hanging in the
eyes by keeping the hair in a tiny hair band and or hair bow,
which you should redo and comb out daily .. Wash and wipe the
eye area with a wet warm wash cloth every day and you can use eye
drops to help debris to come out of the eyes. I had to eliminate all
of the tear staining product mumbo jumbo junk from our lives. It caused
a lot of stress on my babies and for me. Not until I decided to try
ANGEL'S GLOW..Read futher to learn more...
Always use the metal feeding
dish for their water bowl, they are more sanitary. There was a customer
that told me and promised me that if I used DISTILLED WATER for their
drinking water constantly instead of tap water the tear stains
would finally go away..And a product called ANGEL'S GLOW DOES
WORK ANGEL'S EYES!..More expensive but it actually work for tear stains.
Follow the directions. You will notice the new growth will be whiter
so you may want to clip the old tear stained hair gradually. You
have to be consistant. Go to the website

OR ANGELSEYESONLINE.COM. I have several maltese that are tear
stain free and i'm truely impressed....
YELLOW STAINS ON
THE FEET AND HAIR
Yellow stains on the feet are usually caused by urine.
But here is a formula that can be used to help get rid of the stains.
Use 50% liquid Woolite and 50% human hair peroxide, dilute the mixture
with distilled water, conditioning shampoo or whitening
shampoo and add a very good conditioner to the formula. Lather
your baby up and let it stand for 3 to 5 minutes. Then shampoo and
condition hair..Rinse well.. You should also use a rehydrating
shampoo called Hydra-Pearls made by Evsco Pharmacetuticals-phone number
1-800-267-5707. Very good products.
